Friday 25th December- bike ***** - Felixstowe circuit including lunch at Falkenham Church – sunny but breezy and chilly.

Thursday 24th December – walk ***** Felixstowe Prom – sunny with rain later.

With Mag going up the town before the crowds early I decided to get up and join her even if it is hard to get my socks on first thing! We walked down to the prom first to enjoy the wall to wall sunshine with bright blue skies:) It was nice and quiet too with everyone very friendly so we continued all the way to Jacobs ladder getting some nice pics along the way. The poor skating rink was packing up because the heavy rain we have been getting had flooded it:( Then back through the town and home in time for breakfast and exercises as the rain arrived! Then in the evening our son and partner came around for a very pleasant evening with masks all round, they did not leave until 12.30, we haven’t been up that late for years!

Christmas day.

Despite going to bed late last night Mag did not sleep well and was up early but came back to bed to read and we got up around 9 after having learned our Grandson Arlo sleep in until 8.45 which was a big surprise as he has been wound up like a spring for weeks now, so excited about Christmas, he was relived to discovered that Santa had been! I had been keen to get out windsurfing on Christmas day for the first time ever but the tides, wind direction and temperature were against me so we went with plan ‘B’ a bike ride to see ‘Emily’ at Falkenham Church. After having a mince pie in bed, we decided to head off around 10.30 with our lunch, homemade soup, sausage rolls and mince pies. It was lovely and sunny again but there was a cold northerly wind which is not ideal for biking! After pumping up our tyres, giving our lovely neighbours a small Christmas present to headed to the town to pay in some Christmas money before heading down Bent Hill to the prom. Mag was not keen as it was going to be busy but we biked slowly and it was no problem with everyone in good spirits, many with Santa hats:) There was families on the beach, several open water swimmers braving the cold water plus loads of dog walkers. We continued past The Dip to Ferry Lane and down Marsh lane to Kings Fleet. The farm gate was closed but we soon lifted our bikes over and the farm track although wet with puddles was OK. We decided to go up onto the Deben path and although it was not overly muddy it was slow going being so wet, like biking through treacle! It is a good trek to the second path up to Falkenham Church but we stopped regularly enroute to take in the scenery, beautiful it was too and we had it all to ourselves:) Then up the farm track to the church and we were lucky to get our seat with ‘Emily’ as another couple arrived shortly after! We enjoyed our yummy picnic in the sunshine before heading off along the country lanes to Kirton, Trimley and home being out 2 hours 40 minutes covering nearly 13 miles. WE then spent the afternoon opening presents phoning friends and great video call with the Grandson while he opened his presents from us, so a good day was had by all but knackered now!
